Rabbit — Pets

    4. Consider placing thick filtering material over forced air outlets to trap airborne dander particles.

    5. Keep pet(s) in cages as much as possible, clean waste from cages daily.

    6. Refer to the Division of Family & Children Pet Policy 470 IAC 3-4.7-65 for specific pet policies.


    Different Types of Mold

    Carpet Dust Mites

    Dust mites are tiny bugs too little to see with the naked eye that are found in fabrics, including carpeting.

    Allergies to dust mites are common among children. Also, studies show that exposure to dust mites can cause the development of new asthma.

    1. Maintain carpeting with manufactures guidelines.

    2. For carpets wet longer than 48 hours (i.e. floods); wet vacuum the carpet, use fans to accelerate the drying process and use dehumidifiers to reduce humidity levels.

    3. Maintain humidity levels less than 50 percent.

    4. Regularly vacuum carpet when children are not present; High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter vacuums or HEPA filter bags are recommended.

    5. Choose hard-surface flooring as an alternative when possible.

      Use washable area rugs as needed. Wash in boiling water (130 ° F) weekly.

    6. Professionally clean carpets during unoccupied times (e.g., weekends) as needed. Be certain carpet is completely dry within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth.

    7. Clean spilled liquids immediately. Limit or avoid eating on carpeted areas.

    In most cases, if visible mold growth is present, sampling is unnecessary. Sample analysis should follow analytical methods recommended by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), or other professional organizations.

    Although we do not act out Mold Sampling due to our belief that it is a conflict of interest, we highly recommend using a 3rd Party testing or inspection company to act out Sampling/Testing for most situations.

    Consult a building contractor to determine the adequacy of the vapor barrier in your home. Use a humidity indicator to measure the relative humidity in your home. The American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommends these maximum indoor humidity levels.

    Due to growing concerns about indoor air quality, it’s simple to convince homeowners that their ducts need cleaning. But unless ducts are really dirty, there’s no reason to clean them. The EPA takes a similar stance on the issue, recommending cleaning only if the ducts and HVAC unit are contaminated. If done properly, duct cleaning doesn’t hurt; but it’s not something that needs to be on your regular home maintenance list.
